Dr. Andrew Nerness was raised in the southwestern town of Windom, MN.  Dr. Nerness grew up with three younger sisters and performed music throughout the midwest with The Nerness Family music group.  Dr. Nerness is married to his wife Martha and has one daughter.  Dr. Nerness enjoys spending time with family, writing music, singing and playing the piano, racquetball, swimming, snowboarding, ultimate frisbee, and photography.

 

 

 

 

Board Certification

In 2017, Dr. Nerness completed board certification, a voluntary process, which places him in a distinguished group (23%) of all endodontists who have demonstrated exceptional knowledge and technical skill according to standards established by the American Board of Endodontics.  Certification is a 3-part process that requires passing a written exam, oral exam, and critique of a portfolio of completed endodontic cases.  Certification demonstrates a commitment to the highest standard of excellence in the specialty of endodontics.

 

Education

Dr. Nerness received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD in 2005.  He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2011.  After graduation from dental school, he completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center and Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, MN in 2012. In 2014, Dr. Nerness received his Certificate in Endodontics and Master's Degree in Dentistry with a Minor in Oral Pathology from Indiana University School of Dentistry.

 

Experience

Dr. Nerness has been practicing dentistry since 2011.  In his first year of practice, Dr. Nerness provided complex dental treatments and surgeries to medically compromised patients at the University of Minnesota Medical Center residency.  After that, Dr. Nerness limited his focus to endodontics and performed complex endodontic procedures with surgical microscopes, microsurgical instruments, and digital CBCT radiography at Indiana University endodontic residency.  In 2014, Dr. Nerness started a private endodontic specialty practice, Nerness Endodontics, where he continues to provide endodontic procedures.

 

Volunteer

Dr. Nerness has volunteered dental services locally through Children's Dental Services, Union Gospel Mission, and Give Kids a Smile.  He has also served internationally to Brăila, Romania with Serving HIM Healthcare Missions.  Dr. Nerness has served as a delegate to the Minnesota Dental Association House of Delegates.  Dr. Nerness has helped teach continuing education courses in CBCT imaging at the University of Minnesota.  Dr. Nerness and his wife also enjoy serving in their church.
